Your car is in the right place at the Werkhaven
Terschelling will be changing its parking policy in the coming years. Good to know for your visit: as a guest, the best place to park your car is at the Werkhaven.
Why are things changing?
The streets of Oud-West were originally designed for pedestrians and cyclists. Today, there are more cars than parking spaces — and that causes pressure. The municipality is therefore working towards a car‑reduced Terschelling: an island with fewer cars, creating more space for everyone who lives, works, or visits here.
Where should you park as a visitor?
Parking spaces in the centre of Oud-West are primarily intended for residents. Visitors are asked to park their car at the Werkhaven. There is plenty of space there, and you can park for as long as you like. From there, it’s just a short walk into the village.
And the Veerhaven?
At the Veerhaven and the Willem Barentszkade, visitors may park for a short time: with a blue parking disc for a maximum of 4 hours. Convenient if you just need to quickly do something in Oud-West.
Parking with a permit from 2027
In 2027, the municipality will introduce a parking permit system. Islanders will receive an islander permit, and visitors a visitor permit. This will clearly define who is allowed to park where.
We’re not there yet. This summer, the only change is the introduction of parking zones. Want to know more about the current and future parking policy on Terschelling? Visit www.terschelling.nl/parkeren.
