On the occasion of the Year of the Forest, because of the 125th anniversary of Staatsbosbeheer, forest rangers have set out special 'From tree to forest' walks throughout the country. This is also the case on Terschelling. Because there is an extensive walking route network on Terschelling, use was made of the existing green route at the 'Formerumer bos and Wilhelminapolder', which starts at the Natuurschuur in Lies. The route 'Formerumer bos and Wilhelminapolder', now also the 'From tree to forest route' takes you through the most varied forest on Terschelling. Along the 4.5 kilometer route you will find stories about trees, forests and forest management and fun assignments for children via QR code signs. Do you know why dead trees remain in the forest? How a living tree 'works'? What were the peat dobes on Terschelling originally constructed for? Just some facts that are told in the route.

Walking, Nature, and Activity & Sports
all ages, children, adults, and pets
Start: Natuurschuur, Duinweg Lies 33 in Lies.
This marked (family) route can be done with a stroller (suitable for sand paths). If it has rained, there are a few wet spots along the route, which will no longer dry up after last wet winter due to the high water level in the ground. Keep in mind. This walk is ideal in very hot weather: the forest has natural air conditioning and is always much cooler than other areas. Also ideal in (light) rain: you can walk under the crowns of the trees, comfortably sheltered. Start the route whenever you want. You can combine the walking route with a visit to the Natuurschuur. The Nature Shed is open from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM based on available volunteers. The extensive booklet with the complete walking route network is available at VVV Terschelling.

Terschelling consists of 80 percent nature. None of the Wadden Islands is as varied as Terschelling. Between the two seas lie forests, beaches, dune valleys and salt marshes, polders and heathland. A long string of villages connects west with east.
