The Tonnenloods will soon open its doors The finishing touches are currently being put on the new Tonnenloods at the harbor of West-Terschelling. The characteristic building, where Rijkswaterstaat's buoyage systems were formerly maintained, is being given a new purpose as an experience center for nature, culture, and the Wadden Sea as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the renovated Tonnenloods, you will soon discover the nature, history, and stories of Terschelling in a contemporary way. For instance, there is an extensive bird collection to admire, you can take a virtual journey across the mudflats and through the North Sea, and learn more about the island and its special relationship with the sea. There is also much to discover in terms of experience. Various interactive presentations and virtual reality experiences allow visitors to experience the island and the Wadden Sea from a surprising perspective. Do you dare to put on a VR headset and go on a journey of discovery? In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Tonnenloods regularly hosts supplementary cultural activities, lectures, exhibitions, and events. This makes it not only a place to learn, but also a meeting place for islanders and visitors. With the opening of the Tonnenloods, Terschelling gains a unique attraction where nature, cultural history, and the stories of the island come together. A visit to the harbor will therefore soon not be complete without stepping inside. The doors of the Tonnenloods open on July 10. You can buy a ticket at the door or via the VVV. Keep an eye on the announcements for current opening times and other information.
