At the harbor of West-Terschelling, the characteristic Tonnenloods has been given a new purpose as an experience center for nature, culture, and the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. In the historic building, where Rijkswaterstaat's buoys were formerly maintained, you can discover the stories of Terschelling and the Wadden in a contemporary and interactive way. In De Tonnenloods, you will get to know the nature, history, and culture of the island. Admire the extensive bird collection, take a virtual journey across the Wadden and the North Sea, and discover the special bond between Terschelling and the sea. There is also plenty to discover in terms of experience. Interactive presentations and virtual reality experiences allow you to experience the island and the Wadden Sea from a surprising perspective. Put on a VR headset and go on a journey of discovery yourself. In addition to the permanent exhibition, De Tonnenloods regularly hosts cultural activities, lectures, exhibitions, and events. This makes it not only a place to learn, but also a meeting place for islanders and visitors. With De Tonnenloods, Terschelling has gained a special location where nature, cultural history, and the stories of the island come together. A visit to the harbor is therefore not complete without a visit to De Tonnenloods. De Tonnenloods is open every day this summer holiday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tickets are available at the counter and via the VVV.
