The Foundation for the Preservation of the Oldest Motor Lifeboat in the World was established in 2003 to protect the former motor lifeboat Jhr. mr. J.W.H. Rutgers van Rozenburg to be purchased and restored. This ship had been converted into a pleasure yacht and is hardly recognizable as a lifeboat. Within a year, this boat was restored to its original condition with the help of many. At the same time, a museum jetty was constructed in the harbor of West Terschelling, where the 'Rutgers' was given a permanent berth. For example, one can now see the oldest and the newest lifeboats together in a harbor: a rich piece of history.
