Immerse yourself in an enchanting world full of stories! They say the Kraak is a horrible sea monster. That it easily pulls entire ships to the bottom with its meter-long tentacles. With crew and all… Don't believe it! In the animated film show De Kraak, this mythical giant octopus is a good-natured, wise guide. His voice guides visitors through a magical underwater world full of ancient stories. Stories about relationships between people and legendary sea creatures, between people and the Wadden Sea. In the newly renovated Natuurschuur in Lies, Production House Spinbarg presents the ongoing film performance De Kraak. The performance is a frame story with ten short animated films, which are shown in a special spatial installation designed by Peter Musschenga. He created an exciting underwater world with abstract shell shapes, in which the films are shown, and 'seagrass eyes' from which music and sea sounds sound (a soundscape made by David Marcel de Jong from Groningen and Terschelling Tristan Visser). De Kraak's animated films show how humans have traditionally tried to live with the turbulent sea nature. How that often goes hopelessly wrong, but also how much beauty can arise from it. All films are based on old stories from the Dutch, German and Danish Wadden area. They are beautiful and exciting stories, but that is not the only reason that Production House Spinbarg has taken them as a starting point for the performance. The stories also tell a lot about the way we relate to the sea and nature.

Terschelling consists of 80 percent nature. None of the Wadden Islands is as varied as Terschelling. Between the two seas lie forests, beaches, dune valleys and salt marshes, polders and heathland. A long string of villages connects west with east.
