On the western side of the harbor in West-Terschelling stands the bronze statue of the lonely woman. She gazes out over the sea, waiting for her husband, her son, or one of the many others.

Each year, we commemorate the island’s seafarers who have been lost at sea. At 1:30 p.m. there is a memorial service in the Westerkerk (the white church in the Torenstraat). At 2:00 p.m., after the service, a silent procession will lead from the church to the Seafarers’ Monument, where wreaths will be laid. Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to Hotel Oepkes in the Ruyterstraat. Children are also most welcome.
