Forestry Commission Campsite West
Staatsbosbeheer camping West - West-Terschelling
- Max 6 persons
- Pets welcome
Campsite West at West-Terschelling is suitably located for everyone. While the curious rabbits hop across the field, the children play in the sandpit. The campsite is hidden among the trees at the edge of the forest, and yet close to the village. The Groene Strand (Green Beach) is a stone's throw away, perfect for small children.
Silence and peace of a Wadden Island
Nature campsite Terschelling is two kilometers from the port. At this campsite you will experience the peace and tranquility of the Wadden Island. Seven sunny fields separated by alder hedges can accommodate tents, caravans, campervans and hikers. With the bike you can easily cycle to the North Sea beach located five kilometers away.
The site does not have electricity but at the toilet and shower building power is present. The site is equipped with lockers for charging mobile devices and the possibility to charge electric bicycles. Additionally, you can enjoy a campfire in the fire hut.
A trip with the forester
Our forest ranger Hessel Hek strolls regularly with children about the campsite to show what there is to find. Several excursions are also offered. Like wild picking and there is a nature barn nearby the campsite where you can view alternating exhibitions about the nature of Terschelling. Do you prefer adventure than you can come on a canoe trip to search for a seal. Highly recommended! Because a common seal is not so common. His name is special because there is also another seal in the Wadden Sea, the grey seal. The common seal hunts mainly by touch on fish. For that he uses his long and highly sensitive whiskers. During the day they often are sunbathing on the sandbanks off the coast. They don't need a lazy chair for that.

Map & surrounding area
As the boat turns into the harbour, you meet West-Terschelling, the gateway to your destination Terschelling. The Brandaris lighthouse, which stands as a beacon here in the middle of Terschelling’s biggest village, has been greeting seafarers since 1594. It is a lively place, with museums, shops, bars, dance halls, restaurants, hotels, wellness, a swimming pool, and the VVV Tourist Office.
In West, all the elements literally come together; it is where the sea licks the land. Then there is the ‘fire’ in the manned Brandaris lighthouse, which lights up the skies, surrounded by the scents of the mudflats. Every flavour and taste imaginable can be found in the shops and restaurants.
